Cacilhas - Ginjal - Cristo-Rei - Pragal (4.9 km)

From Cacilhas river station, head west along the river by the seawall. It is an area not yet recovered, of old warehouses at the water's edge, abandoned. You will eventually reach a small beach under the hillside with supporting restaurants. You can start there by drinking a coffee, enjoying the Lisbon show on the other bank, and chatting for a while. Beautiful spot! There is a staircase and an elevator that can take you to the top of the cliff where the city begins. At the base of the lift is a fantastic garden by the river. At night it is amazing, with the river reflecting the night Lisbon on the other side.

But our tour continues westward along the river bank. It will pass the Fonte da Pipa, built in 1736 where the ancient fountain supplied the town, and the Naval Museum, which is located in a space belonging to the extinct Companhia Portuguesa de Pescas, founded in 1920 and which, from Ginjal, extended throughout the margin up here. The Company was extinguished in 1984 and the State has exercised the right of reservation in respect of certain assets of the Company.

The route continues along the river, requiring some caution. Before the bridge over the Tagus, go by west up the hill where Christ the King is, until you reach the entrance doors of the monument.

After going up to Cristo Rei (the view is superb), go down Rua dos Moinhos and Rua Fernão Mendes Pinto until Rua D. João de Castro which, in the west, will pass over the A2 motorway and take you to Avenida Torrado da Silva. Continue west to Pragal multimodal station. Here you have access to the Lisbon –Setúbal railway line, Almada metro and Almada buses.

A partir da estação fluvial de Cacilhas, siga para poente ao longo do rio, pelo paredão. É uma zona ainda não recuperada, de antigos armazéns à borda da água, abandonados. Acabará por chegar a uma pequena praia, sob a encosta, com restaurantes de apoio. Pode começar aí por beber um café, gozar o espetáculo de Lisboa na outra margem, e conversar um pouco. Belo local! Há uma escadaria e um elevador que o podem conduzir até ao alto da escarpa, onde a cidade começa. Na base do elevador situa-se um jardim fantástico, à beira do rio. À noite é surpreendente, com o rio a refletir a Lisboa noturna, do outro lado.

Mas o nosso passeio continua para poente, pela margem do rio. Passará pela Fonte da Pipa, construída em 1736 no local onde ancestral fonte abastecia a povoação, e pelo Museu Naval, este instalado num espaço pertencente à extinta Companhia Portuguesa de Pescas, fundada em 1920 e que, do Ginjal, se foi estendendo ao longo da margem até aqui. A Companhia foi extinta em 1984, tendo o Estado exercido o direito de reserva relativamente a alguns bens do património da empresa.

O percurso continua ao longo do rio, exigindo algum cuidado. Antes da ponte sobre o Tejo, suba por poente o morro onde se situa o Cristo-Rei, até chegar às portas de entrada no recinto.

Depois de subir ao Cristo-Rei (a vista é soberba), desça pela Rua dos Moinhos e Rua Fernão Mendes Pinto até à Rua D. João de Castro que, no sentido poente, passará sobre a autoestrada A2 e o levará à Avenida Torrado da Silva. Continue depois para poente, até à estação multimodal do Pragal. Tem aqui acesso à linha férrea Lisboa –Setúbal, ao metro de Almada e aos autocarros de Almada.
